Presentation Feedback

Today we had interim presentation in which we had to write feedback for the person who presented before and after us..

David Argue:
  • Addressing the housing issue
  • Squatters set-up-shop anywhere they can - old factories, buildings etc.
  • Interested in the Marae at Te Papa
  • Theme of connection to Hawaiki - meaning a place where they belong
  • Looking into flax and the fibres microscopically
  • Using a paua shell for the form of the stage
  • People sit in bowl in which the water sits slightly below the bowl.
I think David's tautoko and idea is very noble in which squatters are a neglected part of the community. If you can tie in elements from the marae I think that would reinforce your tautoko and help emphasise your kaupapa. The bowl shape is intriguing and I like the idea of the water slightly below, but what is the significance of the bowl shape? Does it tie in with the marae?

James Norling:

  • Make a stage where everyone is in the front row
  • Spiral form
  • Vertical show
  • When the show is interesting, the structure lights up
  • The exterior will also be a show
  • Pulsates.
I really like this concept, the aesthetics are intriguing however, I wonder about the logistics on how this idea will work. How will the structure stand and take the weight of the audience? How will the structure light up? That aside, incorporating a performance aesthetic on the exterior will help liven up the area around the site especially at night which is good for the community.
